The Prisoner

Jack has taken to pulling down the little cushion surrounding the inside of his crib and peeking out at mommy when she is in the room doing some work at her desk. Popped these pics off real quick . . .

Jack's cold and ear infection are pretty much through, but Jack is still not sleeping through the night. He still wants to eat in the middle of the night no matter how much we feed him during the day and sometimes wakes up all ready to be played with in the middle of the night at like 2 or 3 am. We're working on getting him to sleep all night but it is a struggle so far!!

Quick update. . .

Hello all from Jack-Jack land. Jack has been keeping us up nights the last few weeks. An ear infection, and the a cold following close on, are to blame. It's playing havoc with our efforts to get him on a proper feeding/sleeping schedule. But, we'll get there. Jack's latest food is strained bananas. This is the first time he has had something sweet like bananas and while he wasn't repulsed by the experience, he certainly was surprised and a little shocked. It's fun indeed introducing Jack to all these new tastes.

Not quite so much fun is the state of total sleep deprivation currenlty enjoyed by Mommy and Daddy. Hopefully the long holiday weekend will give us some down time to sort things out.

Enjoy the photos below . . .

More monkeying around

Jack had another bath/monkey towel experience and he looked so cute again we just had to snap some more photos... I'm definitely way biased, but this is one of the cutest baby pictures I have ever seen:

Jack models what the well-dressed Sherpa is wearing this year . . .

Meanwhile, play-mat time is jolly time. Come to think of it, most any time is jolly time for jack.

Can you spot the difference?

Monkeying around

Last weekend we went to Disneyland (surprise!) When we arrived Donald was doing photos on Main Street so we had to get one with Jack. Please note the utter lack of any kind of response on Jack's face. What does it take to get a rise out of this kid? We had breakfast at the Storytellers' Cafe in the Grand Californian Hotel. It's a character breakfast spot, so Chip and Dale, some giant raccoon, and Koda from Brother Bear were all running about, visiting tables. Jack was confronted with all these creatures and greeted them with aplomb. Most children are either delighted or terrified; Jack takes it as a matter of course. Perhaps it's because he's been going to Disneyland since he was just a few weeks old! I still remember his horrified reaction to the parrot mascot at the baseball game. SInce then, he has become fearless.Mommy and Jack flew high with Dumbo!A voyage on the Mark Twain is always a nice and relaxing trip.
Mickey, Goofy and Minnie emabark on an expedition to the peak of the Matterhorn each day.

Back home, not a lot of Jack news. He had a little ear infection, requiring antibiotics etc. -- might have it still; he woke up whining about every hour last night, so mommy and daddy are groggily stumbling around today -- we have to go back to the doctor later in the week for a follow-up visit. Food introductions are great fun and continue, with carrots being the latest to receive the Jack seal of approval.

This is one of my favorite little things of Jack's. He has a bunch of different animal towels for after his bath but his monkey towel is the best.Jack has taken a much greater interest in Boris of late. Just watching Boris walk across the room elicits peals of giggles from Jack. Fortunately, Boris is the most sweet-natured doggie I have ever encountered -- most people who know him will agree. Even when Jack gets a handful of hair and pulls -- and as a hirsute papa I know how much that hurts with Jack's little kung fu grip -- Boris will just turn around and lick Jack's chin as if to say, "I know you don't mean anything but, hey, guy . . ." This will surprise Jack so he will loosen his grip.

Thumbs up for sweet potatoes

So far the solid food experiment has been going OK with Jack, though it usually takes a day or two (say, three feeding attempts) with a new food to get him to accept it without a grimace of absolute disgust. After a couple of feedings he gets into it and downs a whole container -- if not with gusto, then with determination.

Tonight a big success was had in the form of sweet potatoes. Great excitement was had in between spoonfuls and Jack was very happy to eat them.

Of course, tasty toes are always a delicious dessert.
This week Jack was very excited to get some mail from his Nanny and Pop! Inside was a spooooooky Halloween card with a little present. Thanks Nanny and Pop! And just think, a few days ago Auntie Maura sent a spooky card too and a little present, along with cool pictures of the cousins (need a new Tiarnan pic though!) Thanks Aunt Maura!!
